The Application of Silica-Based Aerogel Board on the Fire Resistance and Thermal Insulation Performance Enhancement of Existing External Wall System Retrofit

Due to the need of good thermal performance, external wall insulation (EWI) is usually made materials that are not fire resistant and sometimes flammable. That restricts its application a particular circumstance such as limited building height. Hence, material with resistance performance would allow EWI be more widely applied. This paper introduces novel material: silica-based aerogel porous board, which differs itself from mainstream products available in market because outstanding properties, low density, high surface area, conductivity superhydrophobicity. Herein, fire-resistant were tested compared commercial products. The cone calorimeter analysis results indicated board could improve performance. Moreover, evaluation suggested an on stone existing buildings can decrease U-value by 60%. Through detailed insight into case-study, it quite clear carbon impact stock greatly reduced means coherent set envelope retrofitting actions based this innovative heat material, without compromising safety.
